Edessence was created from a simple insight: many pre-university students make one of the most important decisions of their lives without ever experiencing what different universities and cities are truly like. Reputation, rankings and online research provide information, but they rarely offer the certainty that comes from seeing a place with one’s own eyes. We founded Edessence to bridge that gap and to give students the chance to explore, compare and decide with clarity.
We design immersive programmes across Europe for pre-university students who are still considering where and what to study, guiding them towards the most suitable academic pathway. Each programme combines carefully structured university visits, academic workshops, and moments of everyday life in the city. Students walk through campuses, listen to faculty presentations, speak with current students, and observe how it feels to live and learn in each environment. Our role is to guide this process and accompany students on their journey of discovery.
Our curiosity sits at the heart of how we work. We ask what kind of academic setting helps each student think, grow and feel at ease. I am Ileana, the founder of Edessence – the company that came to life to support upper secondary students in choosing the right academic path. My previous experience in planning and coordinating international programmes as well as my experience in guiding my two children explore their paths into international education shaped the way I envisioned Edessence.
For over seven years I collaborated with Legacy Ventures in London, designing and leading international study tours for MBAs and executives to various destinations around the world including Europe, the UAE, India, China, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Morocco and South Africa. My work involved close collaboration with universities and corporate partners as well as on-the-ground coordination in multiple destinations. Those programmes taught me the importance of first-hand experiences. I observed how participants changed their perspective once they walked through cities, met local leaders and experienced daily life in each country. The same principle now guides my work with upper secondary students: real exposure helps them understand where they feel safe, motivated and able to grow.
I also look at every programme through the lens of a parent. I have closely shared my children’s journeys, from school choices to campus visits and application decisions. I know how much thought, emotion and responsibility lie behind each step a family takes to support their child in making the right academic choice. Therefore, I ensure a close communication with parents and a steady commitment to safety and long-term impact.

I approach each itinerary created by Edessence as a responsibility, paying close attention to every single detail. I focus on designing programmes that give participants enough insight, perspective and lived experience to make confident academic choices, with safety – both physical and emotional – always being the starting point.
